We’re in Pompei as we continue to traverse Italy waving/displaying the LiveStrong name and message. Today's stage looked tailor made for a break away since we figured the riders were certainly more tired than we were. Looking over the finish again we decided not to drive to Benevento and instead walked across the street to the ruins in Pompei. We had breakfast at the hotel on the back patio and noticed some of the biggest lemons we’d ever seen.

I promise these are lemons. Never seen them this big.

It was heating up quick, so we walked  through the city of Pompei on our own pace and schedule, instead of taking the 4 hour tour. No thanks on that. It’s cool, amazing stuff, but I can only do that for a while.

After our self guided tour, we fell into a family restaurant and had some great pasta and pizza. Then walked a bit and had some gelato in a café that we talked into turning on the Giro on their big screen tv. Exactly what we expected with a fairly insignificant day of racing and a break getting away all day.

Tonight we’ll try to find something interesting for diner and it won’t be the Burger King next to our hotel.

Tomorrow is the last big mountain of the Giro, Mount Vesuvius. We’re not far from it but I’m sure it’ll be a slow climb on the bike.
